Testimonials from past workshop students
“Rebecca, this was another challenge but in a good way ….. I really liked the tips about the colour in the reflections of the trees and also the hard pastel around the sun – great! I still don’t understand how you can paint, think, talk, demonstrate and all at the same time!’’ —Simona
“Thank you, Rebecca for yet another amazing session. I learned so much.” — Prue
“Thanks Rebecca, for making me feel that everything doesn’t have to be perfect and how much fun it can be to experiment with colour and marks. Well out of comfort zone again and loved trying. Great tutorial.” — Georgia
“Another lovely class, thank you Rebecca. Great to learn more about use of colour to create light and mood. This really does feel to me like a place I’d like to stand in!” — Sue
“Any class with Rebecca teaches me something new about managing pastels. Great class last night. Thank you.” — Rebecca
“Thanks so much, Rebecca for your excellent teaching. It was so helpful learning about keeping the unsaturated colours in the background and using saturated colours to make the foreground pop.” — Laurel-Lea

Rebecca is a hugely enthusiastic and encouraging tutor, who loves to share her passion for soft pastels. She has been drawing and painting with pastels for 40 years, and teaching for 20 years, in the UK, Italy and online. She came to pastels after a varied career in the arts in theatre and interior design, which is where her love of light and atmosphere developed.
Rebecca has exhibited and won awards at the Pastel Society UK exhibitions, including the Yoshimoto prize in 2024. She is a Full Member of the Society of Equestrian Artists, exhibiting and demonstrating at exhibitions. Her work is known for its life and energy.
She believes that creating art is a great way to develop ourselves whilst also having fun in a supportive and relaxed environment. Corfu is going to be the perfect place to do this, with its quiet coves, beautiful beaches, lush landscapes and pretty villages and harbours.
Rebecca paints landscapes, seascapes, horses, portraits, street scenes and interiors, and loves working on location. It is easy to be daunted if you are not used to sketching outside, but it is actually the perfect way to get life and energy into work. You don’t just see what is there, you use all of your senses - feeling the breeze, hearing the waves crashing or the wind in the trees, and smelling the fresh vegetation around you. It doesn’t take long to learn how to adapt your studio skills to an outdoor location.
We will have 6 days of sketching outside, and also studio time to develop our work further. Rebecca has honed her skills in similar environments by spending time painting in Crete, as well as Italy and Southern France and can’t wait to get to Corfu!
The week will consist of visits to different locations, with lots of tips from Rebecca on how to tackle the different subject matter and qualities of light. How to adapt your palette, mark-making and quality of light for each situation. Rebecca will also show you how to take great photo reference to supplement your sketches when you are back in the studio.
Please do not think that you need to be an experienced pastellist to join us, we are all on an ‘art journey’ and all learning as we go. Rebecca’s teaching style is to give advice individually as she works with each student throughout each day.
In the evenings we will be relaxing and chatting over delicious food and drink.
If you would like to learn more about Rebecca’s relaxed and informative teaching style, you can take a look at her website and join one of her zoom workshops that take place through the winter.
