Meet Kate

Kate grew up in South Africa on the Natal South Coast. She graduated in Textile Design and after several years of designing fabrics moved to Cape Town and established a successful career as a fashion buyer. The Mediterranean countries she visited as a buyer inspired her to start her own business, Medblue Ceramics specializing in hand painted ceramics, tiles and coordinating fabrics.

Medblue Ceramics exhibited at the inaugural Decorex at Spier Wine Estate and again the following year, exporting to Lady Daphne on Sloane Square London and doing commissions for many high-profile clients and interior designers.

Kate now concentrates on painting with pastels from her home studio on Corfu. She is a member of The Pastel Society of America and has had paintings juried into International Pastel Exhibitions and won several awards.

Having grown up by the ocean, windsurfing, surfing, swimming and diving for crayfish have been Kate’s favourite sports. On Corfu, she is in her element, swimming all year round and getting inspired whilst exploring the olive groves and the Nymfes forest which is close to her house.

Meet Rob

Rob grew up in Staffordshire in the UK. After qualifying in engineering, he left for Cape Town, South Africa at 21 and worked for several companies before opening his own business.

Rob is an intrepid adventurer and sportsman, counting soccer, windsurfing, surfing, rock climbing and trail running as sports he has loved doing.

His absolute passion now though is for adventure motor biking after years of racing motorcross. Nothing makes him happier than being out on dirt roads, lighting a fire and camping in the middle of nowhere.

When not on a motorbike especially in the winter months he can be found in his workshop either restoring old vespas and lambrettas or doing metal work, making bespoke lamps or decorative fish and other items.

Meet Honeybee

Honeybee better known as Bunny is a pavement special. She was rescued from the townships of Cape Town and is now a spoilt African princess living her best Greek island life.

It has not been an easy journey for her. She lost her mentor and big brother a month before leaving for Corfu, they were crate training together in preparation for a long flight to Greece when he was killed by a poisonous snake in the garden. So all on her own Bunny has lived through the stress of packing up the house, a flight to Frankfurt, a stay in the Pet Hotel there, another flight to Athens and a stay in a hotel there and a flight to Corfu!

Bunny likes nothing better than exploring the Nymfes Forest close to her house, getting lost in the olive groves or walking on the beach and barking from the shallows when her parents have their daily swims.

About Us

We met for the first-time windsurfing on a windswept beach in Cape Town and being both Pisces and up for any adventure, were definitely Kindred Spirits!

We left our beautiful home we built and lived in for 32 years (overlooking the ocean and our favourite windsurfing beach) to move to Corfu to be closer to our two daughters, who are both art directors in London.

We have always loved to travel, particularly to Italy and Greece. Italy for its incredible art and culture and Greece for its ancient history and laidback lifestyle. In Corfu we believe we have found a wonderful combination of both.

“Corfu in Colour” was born out of Kate’s passion for the island as a pastel painter and wanting to share its incredible beauty and magic with fellow artists.
