The Green Island

Corfu, ruled by the Venetians, French and British, is unlike any other Greek island and is totally unique.

It has captivated many artists and writers…

The American painter John Singer Sargent spent Summer’s painting Corfu’s incredible light. Lawrence and Gerald Durrell both authors, wrote about their amazing time on the island, which has now been made into a highly acclaimed TV series called “The Durrells”.

Corfu’s origins are shrouded in mythology. According to legend, Poseidon, the God of the sea, fell in love with the nymph Kerkyra and gifted her this island as a token of his affection. It is called “The Green Island” and is covered with over four million olive trees and six thousand rare species of wild flowers. The sea glistens azure blue and turquoise and is framed by towering cypress trees.

A visit to Corfu and you will fall in love!

“Gradually the magic of the island settled over us as gently and clingingly as pollen.”
Gerald Durrell
